The circle dance or “Reigen” in German is one of the oldest dance forms in Europe. "Reigen" is often danced around a symbol. There are different ways to perform the circle dance: as a closed circle or as an open circle. The dancers grasp each other by the hands. Again and again new dancers enter or leave the circle, which gets bigger or smaller depending on the number of dancers.
To suit the occasion of the dance, there were pure male dances and pure female dances, such as fertility dances. The male dances were performed in preparation for war.
